Biography
Mithila Sharma is a legendary Nepalese actress and dancer whose career spans over four decades, making her one of the most revered figures in the history of Nepali arts. Born on October 16, 1963, in Kathmandu, she began her journey in the performing arts as a dancer, a discipline that laid the foundation for her expressive acting style. She made her cinematic debut in the film Biswas (1986) and has since appeared in more than a hundred feature films, hundreds of telefilms, and numerous stage plays. Known for her immense versatility, Sharma has portrayed a wide range of characters, from lead roles in her youth to the poignant, maternal figures for which she is now widely celebrated. Some of her most notable cinematic works include Mukundo, Muna Madan, Sukha Dukha, and Basai. Her performance in Mukundo (2000) was particularly significant, earning her critical acclaim on the international festival circuit. Beyond the silver screen, she is a classically trained dancer and has spent many years as an educator, teaching dance and performing arts at prestigious institutions like St. Mary’s School in Kathmandu. Throughout her distinguished career, she has received several high-level honors, including the Gorkha Dakshina Bahu and the Shiksha Padak, reflecting her contributions to both culture and education. In her personal life, she married Moti Lal Bohora, the former Inspector General of Nepal Police, in 2014. As a judge on popular television competitions like Chham Chhami and a mentor to the newer generation of artists, Mithila Sharma remains a central and active influence in the preservation and evolution of Nepali storytelling and traditional dance.
